We have moved! Server is now up and running on VMWare server - on a machine in my closet :-)

Hopefully it won't get _too_ hot!

Now on VMWare Server 2.2

by Lazze July 25, 2010 22:27

Migrated my real server into a virtual one - getting ready for our move(trying to minimize the number of computers) - so now the HTPC is beefed up(Q9450/8gb) - and acts as SQL Sever and webserver as well.

FTP on Win 2008

by Lazze April 03, 2010 20:45

Use these commands to open the Firewall on WIn 2008 server.

1)

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="FTP (no SSL)" action=allow protocol=TCP dir=in localport=21

2) Activate firewall application filter for FTP (aka Stateful FTP) that will dynamically open ports for data connections

netsh advfirewall set global StatefulFtp enable

Of course you have to open port 21 TCP on your hardware firewall as well.

SSL Enabled

by Lazze October 24, 2009 09:31

Just wanted to try a self-signed SSL certificate - so I have installed one for this site. Now you can browse this site with HTTPS.

https://www.ziden.org

You must install the certificate in your "Trusted Store" to get rid of the certificate error.

One thing I do wonder, why doesn't ALL sites have a self-signed SSL certificate? It costs nothing, and it gives the user the choice of accessing the site without the prying eyes of the goverment.

by Lazze August 09, 2009 22:01

I just bought a Logitech Illuminated keyboad, love it! But - no sleep button! Here is a small .NET 2.0 32/64 bit utility for putting the computer to sleep instantly. Make sure Hybrid Sleep is OFF in Power Options.

Enjoy!

PSR - Problem Steps Recorder - Win 7

by Lazze August 09, 2009 20:19

Really good tool! This built-in Win 7 tool will record all screen/keyboard and mouse movement - and generate a mht(windows html helpfile) file with text that describes what the user has done + screen captures. Really nice!

Hope this tool will be available for other OS's as well.

Windows 7 x64

by Lazze August 08, 2009 09:00

I'm now running the real Windows 7 x64 version on my machine! Works great! Some things though:

1. During installation I couldn't get Win 7 to accept my harddrives when they when they were connected to my AHCI IHC9 controller. I hade to disable AHCI

2. Some programs that interact with the file/drive-system directly, like VirtualCD 9(asknet) doesn't work with Win 7. You may install it, but strange things will happen(fixed by uninstalling)

3. Flash pages may still turn IE8 to stone

Overall, it looks good, its fast and user friendly!

New Server plattform

by Lazze July 03, 2009 19:19

Today I moved my webserver from my trusty Asus G2S laptop to a dedicated machine. The new hardware is an Intel GM-45 Express plattform(mini itx from MSI IM-GM45), running a intel P8600 cpu(TDP 35w). Still on Windows 2008 standard as OS.

Lets hope it works!

Syncrosoft on Vista x64 (Cubase)

by Lazze June 27, 2009 22:30

Tried to install the latest version of the hardware protection device used by Steinberg Cubase - Syncrosoft LCC. Didn't work "ProtectExecutor driver not found.

The culprit is a misplaced installation file. The "inf" points to "SysWOW64/drivers" but the actual driver is copied to "System32/drivers" even though it is named "synUSB64.sys". So I just copied the driver to SysWow64/drivers and Violá - a working system!

Catalyst install manager stopped working, FIX

by Lazze May 30, 2009 17:05

I haven't been able to install ATI drivers in windows for a couple of months(I have installed them using command line). Found a solution that actually works, seems that there are a bug in the VC++ redist from microsoft.

Fix here: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2067

Works like a charm!

// Lazze

Looks like MS has changed all links and stuff concerning VC++ Redist, you can download from:

by Lazze May 20, 2009 14:25

Sometimes it is practical to enable a standad webservice testservice on a more productionlike environment. If you, like me have forgotten the syntax, look here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/819267
